Pc hurt in stolen vehicle pursuit

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was injured trying to stop a stolen vehicle in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Police spotted a minibus - which had been stolen from J and B Travel in Horsforth, Leeds - being driven "dangerously" in the town.

The officer suffered nose and face injuries as the driver twice refused to stop before a stinger device was used.

A senior police officer said it was "a miracle" no-one was killed.

The 24-seater Mercedes minibus was eventually stopped on the Westwood area of the town by police who punctured the tyres.

Humberside Police said a number of officers surrounded the minibus and a man was arrested.

Chief Superintendent Paul Davison, of Humberside Police, said: "The standard of driving encountered by officers was extremely dangerous and the suspect was very determined to evade police.

"Driving of this type in such a large vehicle can be more lethal than carrying a weapon.

"It is a miracle that no members of the public or police officers were killed or seriously injured."
