Thousands of people have backed a petition to scrap the tolls
A campaign to scrap tolls at the Humber Bridge has received backing from The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Lincolnshire organiser Michael Self said abolishing the tolls would have a stimulating effect on businesses on either side of the Humber.

A petition has been set up on the Downing Street website calling on the government to scrap the charges.

The FSB said members in Hull, Scunthorpe and Grimsby would be asked for their opinions.

Our case is a very powerful one. What's more it's not going to go away
Councillor Mark Kirk

Mr Self said: "It is an anachronism that the bridge which joins South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire together actually acts as a barrier to trade, rather than as a conduit for success."

Four councils have joined forces to push for a cut in bridge tolls.

North Lincolnshire councillor Mark Kirk said: "We've had to put up with tolls for 26 years.

"Yes, we will have to wait a little longer until we achieve our aims but with every passing day I grow more optimistic that we have right on our side.

"Our case is a very powerful one. What's more it's not going to go away."
