Hundreds of pupils are returning to a Hull school eight months after it was badly damaged in the summer floods.

Youngsters at Thorpepark Primary School on the city's Orchard Park estate were back behind their desks on Wednesday after spending months at other schools.

The school was one of the most badly damaged of the 92 across the city when torrential rain hit the area last June.

The 309 pupils were dispersed to temporary rooms at The Parks and Endyke Primary School during the crisis.

Playing together

Thorpepark head teacher Mary Wallace said the youngsters had actually benefited from the change in their usual routine.

She said: "They've had to adapt, they've been mixing with children they wouldn't normally be with.

"On our current premises we have a key stage one building and a key stage two building.

"But we just had the one section of the Endyke building to work in, so they had to play together, the different age groups were playing together in a smaller space and they certainly learned to get on better with each other and help each other."
