Teenage boy dies in stab attack

A teenage boy has been stabbed to death in Hull.

Joe Dinsdale was found with a stomach wound on Bilton Grove in the city. Detectives believe the 17-year-old probably knew the attacker.

His father Andy Dinsdale said: "I just don't know what to say. He was such a character. He was such a good lad."

A 20-year-old man is still being questioned by police. A 16-year-old boy who was arrested has been released without charge.

Det Ch Insp Simon Walker said: "I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that early indications suggest that the victim and suspect were known to each other and that there was no risk to the wider community."

Mr Dinsdale hugged and consoled other family members as he visited the scene of his son's death, which is now marked by floral tributes.

The family read notes left by Joe's friends, which included bouquets of flowers, pink heart-shaped balloons and Hull Kingston Rovers rugby scarves.

Sam Newman, who lives in Bilton Grove, described the scene minutes after Joe was stabbed on Monday night.

"I came out and I saw him lying on the pavement. About 10 minutes later the ambulance arrived," he said.

"I heard his mum crying and screaming. There were a lot of neighbours outside but we couldn't get near the crime scene.

"Someone had put a cover over him but he was losing a lot of blood."

Joe was taken to the Hull Royal Infirmary, where he later died.

A cordon was put up in the area and forensic officers have examined the scene.

Gary Barron, who called the ambulance service, said: "He was just like laid on the floor and I've just found out today that he's passed away.

"There was a horrible lot of commotion. We ran down here because of the elderly lady that lives there. But there was nothing we could do really."
