Power cut hits hundreds in city
Hundreds of residents in Hull have been left without electricity after a power cut hit the west of the city on Saturday night.

The 200 households affected had still not been reconnected by Sunday lunchtime as engineers worked round the clock to restore supplies.

Power company YEDL said the failure was caused by an underground fault in De Grey Street and Prince's Road.

It hoped all affected properties would be reconnected by Sunday evening.

A YEDL spokeswoman said: "We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.

"As soon as we identified this as an underground cable fault in the early hours of Sunday morning our engineers started excavating.

"However, they discovered a gas leak and had to stop work until the gas board had worked on the gas pipe."
