Suicide increase prompts training
Young man
Young men are the most at risk of suicide
Two East Yorkshire charities are aiming to tackle the rising number of suicides in the area by offering training for those who work with young people.

The suicide intervention skills training hopes to help youth workers spot suicidal feelings.

It is part of a local strategy in the East Riding to help youngsters who are at risk of self harm.

The scheme is being launched by Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Papyrus (Prevention of Young Suicide).

Anna Brown, from Papyrus, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to provide front-line staff with a programme to help manage the increasing levels of self harm and suicidal thoughts experienced on a daily basis among our young people."

A spokeswoman for Mind said: "It can give staff the confidence to ask about suicide if they are concerned for someone's safety."
