Sports minister Richard Caborn formally opened Beverley's new £6m swimming pool on Friday.
Mr Caborn and East Riding of Yorkshire Council chairman David Grange toured the eight-lane, 25-metre facility at Beverley Leisure Centre.
They were also shown the centre's £400,000 changing pavilion, the skate park and multi-sports area and revamped catering facilities.
The new pool will open to the public from Saturday.
Stephen Parnaby, leader of the council, said: "It's a measure of the scale of this project that Mr Caborn has agreed to open the new pool and we are delighted he is coming to Beverley.
"The council's aim is to provide an excellent community recreation facility as well as regionally important swimming facilities, and that is exactly what is taking shape at the moment."
