The Liberal Democrats have retained their seat in Hull City Council's Beverley ward.
Their candidate Joyce Korczak had a majority of 993 over Labour's Andrew Whiting in a by-election on Thursday.
Conservative Alec Dear was in third place, with the other four candidates each gaining fewer that 100 votes.
The election, in which 32% of the electorate voted, was forced by the resignation last month of Lib Dem councillor Geraldine Gough.
