A man who reported his fiancee missing on Valentine's Day has appeared in court and admitted her manslaughter.

Paul Dyson, 30, of Hotham Road North, Hull, denied murder, at Hull Crown Court. Prosecutor Andrew Hatton said his plea was not acceptable.

Joanne Nelson, 22, was found strangled in woods near Malton, North Yorkshire, five weeks after hundreds of officers began searching for her body.

Dyson was remanded in custody to stand trial for murder on 7 November.

Dozens of Miss Nelson's friends and family packed the court for the five-minute hearing on Friday.

Dyson, a wood machinist who lived with Miss Nelson, is accused of killing the Job Centre worker on or around 13 February at a place unknown.

Her body was found on 24 March in Brandsby Lodge Woods.
