Space delay for Cleethorpes engineer

Scientists lead by Cleethorpes-born engineer Alan Moorhouse have cancelled plans to deploy an important experiment on Europe's flagship Mars Express spacecraft.

An antenna that would beam radar signals onto the surface of Mars to look for water was due to be deployed this week.

But the engineers have postponed it after experiments showed it could damage the multi-million pound spacecraft.

Charity to help teenagers fly

A scheme launched in northern Lincolnshire hopes to teach one teenager a year how to fly a plane.

The Glen Stewart Flying Scholarship has been named after the flying instructor who died in a plane crash at Hotham in East Yorkshire in March.

His widow, Melanie, is trying to raise £130,000 to set up an investment fund which would pay for the flying training of one teenager each year.

Supermarkets picketed in pensions row

Former workers at the Hibernia Foods factory in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, have decided to picket major supermarkets to publicise their plight.

The staff have been in dispute with the US Sara Lee Corporation over losing pensions when the plant closed in January this year.

They said they believe Sara Lee has a moral duty to make sure they have decent incomes later in life.

Flagship Tesco and Sainsbury branches are likely targets, the workers said.
