Two stops

Mr Hunter, a businessman in Bridlington, set off with Mrs French in his light aircraft from L'Estartit, near Gerona, on the morning of 3 September.

They were due to fly over the Pyrenees and make two stops in France before landing in Driffield, East Yorkshire that evening.

But their last radio message was just under two hours after take off and they failed to arrive at their first refuelling point, St Secondin, near Poiters.

The Foreign Office spokesman said: "An air and ground search has taken place, but to no avail."

He said the pair are still officially listed as missing and that consular officials were liaising with their families.
