Kumar will serve only half his sentence
A hospital doctor has been jailed for nine months after admitting having sex with a 14-year-old boy he picked up in a nightclub.

At the time of the offence in February, Dr Aman Kumar, 34, was senior house officer at Hull Royal Infirmary.

He has since been suspended by the General Medical Council.

Kumar told police he thought the boy was above the age of consent of 16. He also admitted possessing a quantity of the drug ecstasy.

Work experience

Prosecuting barrister Patrick Palmer said the boy was on work experience at a hairdressers when his parents allowed him to go on a pub crawl with members of the salon's staff.

The boy was being sick in the toilets at the Fuel Bar when Kumar met him and invited him home.

Kumar's barrister John Thackray said: "You may wonder why a man like him could make a grave error of judgement. He does too.

"He said it was a difficult time in his life.

"He had just informed other people of his sexuality and was suffering from work-related stress."

Kumar was told he will serve half of his nine month sentence before being released on licence.
