Family's holiday home heartbreak
The eroding cliff top
The bungalow's drive has disappeared since Christmas
A family will have to pull down their holiday home on the East Yorkshire coast because of coastal erosion.

The rapid speed of erosion has left the Norcliffe family's cliff top bungalow four feet away from an 80ft precipice.

Five years ago the family, who come from Halifax, had to pull down their first home on the headland at Barmston.

But Linda Norcliffe said they unprepared and "shocked" by the speed at which the coastline is crumbling into the sea.

Public danger

At Christmas, she was able to park her car on the driveway but that has now slipped away.

Mrs Norcliffe told BBC Look North: "I know coastal erosion happens but it has come on very very quickly - it has really shocked us this time.

"We expected a lot more time. We knew eventually it would have to go - but not so quickly."

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the home will eventually have to be destroyed because of the danger posed to the public using the beach below.

But the family insist they want to hold onto the house - the last on the headland - until mother nature seals its fate.
