Family and friends pay last respects
Funeral procession
Family and friends gathered to celebrate Laura Torn's life
The family and friends of strangled teenager Laura Torn paid their last respects to her at their local church on Monday.

The tight-knit community of the village of Owston Ferry where Laura lived came together to celebrate the 18-year-old's life, and share their grief.

The service at St Martin's Church, led by the Vicar of Haxey and Owston Ferry, the Reverend Jean Staff, was described as a thanksgiving for Laura's life.

Her family had said they did not want the congregation to dress in dark and sombre clothing, but they should reflect the vibrant youngster that Laura was.

The Rev Staff told BBC Look North: " We have got two CDs of Laura's music to reflect the fact the family want it to be a thanksgiving for her life."

"I hope the community will come together and will heal, it will happen in time, but inevitably with the deep sadness people feel it's going to be a long process."

The 18-year-old went missing in the early hours of 27 April after a night out at a pub in her home village.

Her body was discovered 10 days later in a haystack at Misson in Nottinghamshire.

Guy Beckett, 31, of Burnham Square, Owston Ferry, has been remanded in custody charged with Miss Torn's murder.

He is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on 15 August.
