Councillor becomes Worcester mayor again

The new mayor of Worcester has been named as Councillor Mike Layland, who also had that role nearly 30 years ago.

Mr Layland, who was born and bred in the city, has been deputy mayor for the last 12 months.

He was the mayor from 1981 to 1982, and is married with one son, one stepson and one stepdaughter.

Councillor Keith Burton was voted in as deputy mayor and Councillor Simon Geraghty remains the leader of the council.
