Man hit on way back from prayers

A man in his 70s was hit in the face and suffered a broken eye socket as he returned home from a prayer session at a Worcestershire mosque.

Police said they were treating the incident, in Coventry Street, Kidderminster, on 30 October at 1945 GMT, as a racially-motivated attack.

The victim, an Asian man, was approached by two men who made off towards Radford Avenue.

The man is receiving "ongoing treatment" for a broken eye socket.

Pc Saqib Mahmood said it had been a "cowardly, unprovoked attack" on a "frail pensioner who was in no position to defend himself".

He added: "He was on his way back from prayers at a mosque and was dressed in traditional white robes.

"We believe he was singled out for no other reason than his appearance and as such it was a racially-motivated assault."

The attackers were described as both white and in their early 20s.

One was about 6ft tall with dark hair. He wore a blue and red top with white sleeves.

The other man was shorter, had lighter hair and wore a pale blue T-shirt under a dark blue, hooded top which had white numbers on.
