A Worcestershire choir has helped raise more than £40,000 to help injured servicemen and women.

Kidderminster Male Voice Choir released its 18-track CD Songs For Heroes about a year ago.

All the money raised goes to Help for Heroes which provides support for armed service people wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The choir's Eric Halsall said about a third of members were ex-servicemen and the charity choice was well-supported.

'Brought to tears'

He said: "It is the first time we have made a CD for a single charity and this got approval within minutes."

Mr Halsall added that the choir's involvement with service personnel and their families had been "very moving".

He said: "We have sung at Selly Oak to the casualties and the staff there and we have also sung at funerals.

"We sung at a funeral for a lad killed in Helmand a couple of weeks ago and the response we get brings us to tears."

The CD, which includes include Angels, My Way and Summertime, is being sold by the Help for Heroes charity.

A spokesman for the choir added that members were very pleased at the success of the sales.
