Plans for turbine distance rules

Proposals that would prevent wind turbines being built close to homes are to be put before MPs.

MP Peter Luff is introducing a private members bill advocating that large turbines should be built 1.5 miles (2.4km) away from dwellings.

Smaller turbines could be built closer to residential properties, the Mid Worcestershire MP said.

Mr Luff has been working with residents opposed to proposed wind turbines being put up near the Vale of Evesham.

He said he hoped the proposals would reduce opposition to wind farm plans.

"It's just intended to reduce the risks of these turbines being built unreasonably close to homes - unless, of course, the affected homes wanted them," he said.

Scottish Power has recently said it plans to reduce the number of turbines proposed for Lenchwick from 10 to five.
