Victim underwent 'violent attack'

Gheluvelt Park, Worcester
The park is closed

A 66-year-old man whose body was found in a park in Worcester had been the recent victim of "a violent physical attack," police said.

Gordon Whitehouse's body was discovered in Gheluvelt Park early on Wednesday by a passer-by.

The park remains closed until Friday while investigations and searches, including underwater ones, continue.

Further tests are being carried out on Mr Whitehouse's body to determine a cause of death.

Officers were also studying CCTV footage from the area and conducting house-to-house inquiries.

Det Supt Steve Cullen issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

He said officers wanted to hear from anyone who heard or saw a disturbance in or around the park on Tuesday night, or in the early hours of Wednesday.

Mr Whitehouse lived in Whitbourne.
