Council to vote on golf closure

Councillors are to discuss plans to close a public golf course to help save a borough council nearly £1m a year.

Pitcheroak Golf Course in Redditch, Worcestershire, is part of proposed cutbacks the council is considering in a bid to save £820,000 next year.

A council vote will decide whether to close the golf course, or to allow Worcestershire and Herefordshire County Golf Partnership to run it.

Closing the course would save £85,000, the council said.

Warren Holland, from the partnership, said he hoped they would be given the chance to run the course.

He said: "We believe if the plan is implemented, not only will it save the golf course, but it will actually offer considerably more opportunities to people in the district and in the borough."
