Main routes are being gritted in Worcestershire and Herefordshire after a warning of icy conditions was predicted overnight in the Midlands.

More than 240 schools had to stay shut in Herefordshire and Worcestershire on Friday due to heavy snowfall.

The weather led to the ambulance service in the two counties using 4x4 vehicles to reach emergencies.

The expected freezing conditions for the weekend have led to sporting events being cancelled.

Hereford's League One football match against Brighton on Saturday has been postponed.

And Sunday's meeting at Hereford Racecourse has been called off because of the weather.

A full council meeting in Herefordshire had to be called off on Friday.
