Web forum closed over porn link

An internet forum about healthy living has been closed after a link to a pornographic website was added.

The link was on Worcestershire County Council's Healthy Eating Forum, where members of the public discuss food and lifestyle issues, for about two weeks.

The council admitted it had not been checking the site but would adhere to its protocols in the future.

Councillor Stephen Clee said the website had been abused by "immature and childish individuals".

'Different regime'

He said the forum had been set up in an open manner because it was felt the public would be more likely to participate.

He added such abuse would not be tolerated and the council had now closed down the forum.

"If and when the forum reopens, we will have to ensure a different regime is in place to protect users of the facility, and thwart those intent on mischief," he said.

"What is upsetting is not just the stupidity of these people who want to violate our pages, it is the fact that they could put off residents and children from using the internet to access information they need to know or taking part in debates that could improve services."
