Crossing move after girl's injury

The parents of a girl who was seriously injured on a road have been successful in their fight to get a new pedestrian crossing there.

McAyla Johnston, who was 10-years-old at the time of the incident in September, was struck by a car on London Road, Worcester.

It had not been decided exactly how the road would be improved, Worcestershire County Council said.

The girl's mother, Terri, said there was a "lot of people power".

"Even the slightest bit of an uphill McAyla will struggle, because she's not walking properly yet," said Mrs Johnston.

"But other than that she's recovering and she'll get there."

The council said it was planning to introduce a "number of measures at the traffic signal junction of London Road, Wylds Lane and Seabright Avenue".

It said: "The junction has been identified as a higher than normal risk to pedestrians and it is hoped that a series of measures to improve pedestrian facilities at the junction will address concerns."
