Gang attack victim critically ill

A 35-year-old man is in a critical condition after he and another man were attacked by a gang in Worcestershire.

A group of up to 12 youths assaulted the men in Kidderminster's Horsefair at about 2030 GMT on Thursday.

It happened at the junction of Gilbert Scott Way and Radford Avenue. A second man, 33, was treated in hospital for minor cuts, West Mercia Police said.

A youth arrested on suspicion of assault was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Witness appeal

The injured 35-year-old was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Coventry with serious head and facial injuries.

He is in a critical but stable condition, police said.

The 33-year-old was treated for facial cuts at Kidderminster Hospital and released shortly after.

Det Insp Dean Jones, of Kidderminster CID, said: "We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, including anyone who was in the area at the relevant time, to contact us."

The scene was closed off overnight while forensic officers studied the scene but has now been reopened.
