Man hit by car during cow rescue

An elderly man was seriously injured when he was knocked over by a car while he was trying to get a cow back into a field in Worcestershire.

The 74-year-old man from Northfield, Birmingham, was injured earlier on the A441 at Hopwood.

The cow had escaped from a nearby farm and he was trying to help get it back into the field when he was struck by a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

He suffered head and internal injuries and is critical but stable in hospital.

The road was closed for about three hours after the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact West Mercia Police.
