Virus keeps hospital wards closed

Visitors are still banned from two wards at a Worcestershire hospital almost three weeks after an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea.

The bug was discovered at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, and in some serious cases was diagnosed as the Norovirus.

Some operations had to be cancelled and a visitor ban for the whole hospital was imposed last Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: "The situation remains of concern."

Visitors have been discouraged from going to any wards and were asked not to bring children to the hospital at all.

At Worcestershire Royal Hospital two new cases of Norovirus were reported over the weekend and the patients were isolated.

Kidderminster Hospital has been operating as usual.
