Old man rescued from house fire

An elderly man was rescued from his burning house after being found unconscious in his kitchen.

The blaze began at The Nook, in Leysters, near Leominster, Herefordshire, at about 1830 BST.

Neighbours raised the alarm and two firefighters went in and found the man in the kitchen where a cooking utensil on the hob had caught fire.

He was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke. No-one else was injured.

The house was badly damaged by smoke.
