Goodwill messages have been sent from all over the world to a cage fighter who has been seriously injured.

Ross Mason, 32, is in intensive care in hospital after being found with severe facial injuries in Redditch, Worcestershire, on Saturday morning.

Andy Lillis, president of the Cage Fighting Championship, said he had received telephone calls from across the world asking how he is.

Mr Mason is in a serious but stable condition. Police are investigating.

West Mercia Police are hoping to speak to Mr Mason in the next few days to find out what happened.

Mr Lillis said: "Ross is one of the most popular MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighters in Europe.

"I have had phone calls from all over the world over the last 24 hours asking for progress reports.

"There are many websites that are dedicated to MMA all over the world and he's one of the main stories on every website."
