Protest over post office closure

Dozens of people have marched through the streets of Hereford in a bid to keep their post office open.

Twenty-nine post offices could close under plans revealed in August in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Campaigners representing the Redhill branch walked for 40 minutes during their protest march in Hereford.

Post Office Ltd said it would consider all comments made during a public consultation, which would end on Tuesday, "very carefully".

Outreach services

The six-week consultation period affecting Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands began in August.

In addition to the 29 post offices facing closure, also under the plans more than a dozen others could be replaced by "outreach services" such as a mobile post office visiting at set times.

Post Office Ltd said any decisions would "not be taken lightly".

A spokesperson said it could "understand and sympathise" with the concerns people had over the future of branches.

"Our aim is to ensure that our customers across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands have the best prospect for a sustainable network in the future," the spokesperson said.
