Hospitals discouraging visitors

Three hospitals have urged people not to visit unless they have to as increasing numbers of patients show symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.

The request was issued by the Kidderminster, the Worcestershire Royal and the Alexandra, Redditch, hospitals.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said that some cases had been identified as the Norovirus.

Some planned surgery at the Alexandra and Worcestershire Royal on Saturday and Sunday was cancelled.

The trust asked people not to visit if they have had diarrhoea or vomiting within the last two days as they could still be infectious.

It said if people "really have to visit", they should wash their hands, dry them and use the alcohol hand gel on entering and leaving the area.

They should also go to visitors' toilets in the public areas not the toilets on the wards.
