Canal network receives cash boost

Volunteers carrying out some of the work
Volunteers have been helping to carry out restoration work

A £4,500 donation from a supermarket means an extra 50m (164ft)of Worcestershire's historic canal network can be restored.

Waitrose bosses gave the cash to the Waterways Trust to help with the restoration of the Droitwich canals.

The trust is hoping to raise a total of £1m to complete the entire project. The latest donation means it is halfway there.

Volunteers have been giving up their summer to help carry out the work.

Those behind the project hope to have the canals reopened by 2009.
