Farrier chosen for Olympic Games

A Worcestershire man has been selected as one of just three official farriers at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Kelvin Lymer, who is based at the Sandpitt Forge, in Grimley, near Worcester, has been shoeing horses for almost 30 years.

He has previously been a farrier for the British team at the World Games, World and European Championships.

He is flying out to Hong Kong next week and will shoe horses not just for the British team but all competitors.

He said: "I'm over the moon. These things don't often come your way so when they do you take hold of them and go for it.

"There's a lot of pressure on you because of the actual event itself but you have the same amount of pressure on you when you are doing a horse back at home.

"You provide the same service as you would give anybody here."
