A man who was arrested after a bridge protest which caused traffic chaos in Worcester has been released on bail.

Police closed Worcester Bridge during evening rush hour on Tuesday while a man held a protest on the bridge.

The man was arrested on suspicion of wasting emergency resources and was bailed to return to Worcester Police Station, a force spokesman said.

It is understood he was protesting over the way a housing association has handled building work at his home.

The police spokesman added: "The arrest followed an incident in which it was considered necessary to close the road to protect both the man, who was later arrested, and emergency services personnel involved."
