Firm plans 'hundreds of new jobs'

Developers want to create a high-tech business park which could bring hundreds of jobs to Worcestershire.

Developer Cill Dara has outlined its plan for the old British Sugar Factory site in Stourport Road, Kidderminster.

The firm said it wants to turn the 60 hectares plot into a "strategic employment site" which could attract up to 700 jobs, mainly in the IT sector.

Wyre Forest District Council leader John Campion said the move could create "higher paid jobs" in the area.

'Improve lives'

The site of the old sugar factory has been empty since it closed in 2002.

Mr Campion said the developer outlined its plans at a community dinner in Kidderminster.

He said: "It's a very rough guide at the moment, but the important thing is the vision.

"We don't want a bog-standard distribution employment site.

"We want to make sure that people in Wyre Forest and the surrounding areas have an opportunity for the higher paid jobs to make sure we improve the lives and the conditions that people work in, in the district."
