Delayed work to start on bridge

Teme Bridge, Worcester
The bridge is more than 200 years old and needs repairing

Work is about to start on a Worcester bridge a year after it had originally been planned to begin.

The Powick New Bridge, over the River Teme, is used by more than 20,000 motorists going into the city each day.

Repair work had been scheduled for the 200-year-old bridge last summer, but was delayed by flooding in the city.

Council leaders have now warned motorists they will face delays over the six weeks it is expected to take to do the work.

The authority said the work would increase the capacity of the bridge.

It is also expected to include better signage of the A4440/A449 Powick roundabout to prevent queues and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road.
