Police said a man was in custody

A man has been detained after a suspect package was found at a university.

Bomb disposal experts were called to Worcester University and students and residents living nearby were told to leave the Henwick Road site.

West Mercia Police said it was a precautionary measure and only a small number of residential addresses were evacuated.

The suspect item is being examined by police and military experts were also called to assist.

"No one has been injured as a result of this incident and members of the public are not at risk," a spokesman said.
