Emily Jordan became trapped beneath rocks and drowned

The parents of a woman who drowned while taking part in an extreme sport in New Zealand have visited the site where she died and seen her body.

Emily Jordan, 21, of Trimpley, near Bewdley, Worcestershire, died after river-boarding near Queenstown, on the South Island, on Tuesday.

Her parents Chris and Sarah flew out to visit the Kawarau River gorge where the accident happened.

Mr Jordan said the experience was "harrowing" but had helped the family.

Last week he criticised the trend for extreme sports, saying they were going "too far".

Body flown back

Ms Jordan, who had graduated last year from Swansea University with a first-class law degree, had been on a six-month trip with her boyfriend.

They had gone river-boarding - where people lie on a body board and ride along river rapids - with the Mad Dog River Boarding Company.

Ms Jordan became trapped beneath rocks and guides tried for 20 minutes to free her.

Her parents plan to fly back to the UK with her boyfriend on Monday and her body will be repatriated on Tuesday.

An investigation into her death is expected to take two months to complete.
