Tram idea for city investigated

Trams could be seen on the streets of Worcester under plans being investigated by a council.

Worcestershire County Council is looking at the idea which could see trams using existing rail lines.

Trams might be operating in the city in 2015 if proposals are given the go-ahead.

"We're looking at trams because of the railways that we've got here in Worcester," the county council's rail planning officer, David Balm, said.

"We think that there's an opportunity there to use the local rail network more for local people to provide a service for Worcester.

"At the moment it's mostly long distance services that use the railway up to Birmingham or to London."
