Radiotherapy unit campaign starts

A public consultation on the plans is being held
A campaign has been stepped up to bring a radiotherapy centre to Worcestershire.

The county's Conservative prospective parliamentary candidates said people currently had to go to Cheltenham, Gloucs, for cancer treatment.

The NHS is consulting over whether a £1.5m centre should be built in either Worcestershire, Herefordshire or Gloucestershire.

The Tory candidates have said the money should go to Worcestershire.

The Conservative candidate for West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin said: "There are currently plans to have five machines down in Cheltenham.

"We would like to see any future machines based in Worcestershire as we believe that's the most convenient place for people to travel to in the county."

A spokeswoman for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said the consultation was ongoing.

It is expected to finish in March or April.
