City's stations to get facelift

London Midland said the stations needed a revamp

A city's railway stations are to get a facelift, the new train operator for the Midlands has said.

London Midland said Worcester's Shrub Hill and Foregate Street stations are both in need of renovation.

Shrub Hill, built in the 1850s, is to be repainted and get new lifts, passenger help points, improved CCTV and more car parking.

The stations have been criticised by tourist team Visit Worcester which said they need to be more welcoming.

London Midland recently took over the rail franchise for the Midlands from Central Trains.

Its managing director Steve Banaghan said much of Shrub Hill's old character would be retained during the renovations.

He said: "I think it's fair to say both of Worcester's stations are in need of an uplift.

"We have money for investment, £11.6m, and Worcester will certainly get a share of that."
