Three-month closure of city route
Teme Bridge, Worcester
The bridge is more than 200 years old and needs repairing
Motorists in Worcester face up to three months of traffic chaos this summer when a major route into the city closes for repairs.

The Powick New Bridge, over the River Teme, is used by more than 20,000 motorists going into the city each day.

The bridge, on the A449, is more than 200 years old and restructuring work needs to be carried out.

Worcestershire County Council said the closure date had not been finalised but it would keep disruption to a minimum.

It said the work would increase the capacity of the bridge, while there would also be better signage of the A4440/A449 Powick roundabout to improve queue management and make pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities safer.
