The Christmas lights in Hereford are to be scaled down this year.
Several illuminations have been damaged in storms and Herefordshire Council says it cannot afford the £30,000 it would cost to replace them.
As a result, Commercial Road, Eign Gate, Union Street and St Owen's Street will be without their festive lights.
Councillor George Hyde said: "It's far more important to the whole of the area that High Town, especially, is well-lit to bring the shoppers in."
