Work to repair the tower of Hereford Cathedral has been halted while organ tuning is carried out because it creates too much noise.
Fine tuning the cathedral's organ is being carried out at the same time that three of the tower's four stone Victorian turrets are being repaired.
The cathedral is also waiting for sandstone from Derbyshire before work can continue on the £600,000 project to replace the turrets.
The work will take up to four years.
During tuning and balancing of the cathedral's organ even the vergers are asked to refrain from cleaning to keep the atmosphere as peaceful as possible.
