Park's pride at rare white lions

The pride is now roaming their new three-acre home

A rare attraction has arrived at a Worcestershire safari park.

What is believed to be the first pride of African white lions to be brought to the UK is roaming around West Midlands Safari Park.

It is estimated the lions, bought from Kruger National Park, in South Africa, are four of only 70 of their kind in the world.

Park spokeswoman Wendy Jackson said it was the biggest single animal investment the park had ever made.

Ms Jackson said the whole project, which included the pride's new home, had cost £250,000.

Park bosses hope that 16-month-old Mubuto and his sister Natasha, their half sister Johanne, 15 months, and unrelated Maryn, 19 months, will be a major draw for visitors.

The lions are affected by a genetic condition known as leucism meaning they lose the normal pigmentation in their skin and fur.

They are out of quarantine and roaming their new three-acre home known as Kingdom of the White Lions.
