Inquiry after armed siege death
Armed police
Police found the body in the house
The death of a man following a four day armed siege is to be investigated by the Police Complaints Commission.

The 44-year-old barricaded himself into the Haskell Road, Poole, Dorset house armed with a shotgun on Sunday.

On Wednesday evening police entered the house after hearing a gunshot. It is believed he shot himself.

Evacuated residents have been allowed back to their homes but are being asked to stay away from the scene of the investigation.

The gunman burst into the house at 0530 BST on Sunday over what is thought to have been a domestic dispute.

He ordered a man and four young children out of the house.

Two hours later their badly beaten 26-year-old mother also left the house and was taken to hospital.

Armed police and trained negotiators surrounded the house but were unable to resolve the stand-off.

A police spokesman said it was standard procedure for deaths in these circumstances to be investigated by the Police Complaints Commission.

The dead man has yet to be identified.
