A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a driver was hurt and his car wrecked when another vehicle ploughed into it.
The 34-year-old victim lost some teeth and suffered bruises to his leg and face when a red Audi 80 slammed in to the open door of his Audi A4 as he was getting in.
The door was wrenched to one side, knocking him into his car.
A 37-year-old from Southsea, Portsmouth, has been arrested over the incident at 1950 BST on Friday.
Victim 'fortunate'
Police said the impact of the crash forced the car across the road, ripping two tyres from their rims.
After the crash in Northover Road, in the Baffins area of Portsmouth, the Audi involved reversed down the road and drove away down Stanley Avenue.
It was later discovered in Southsea.
Detective Sergeant Pat Reddin of Hampshire Police said: "This is a very serious incident which we are treating as attempted murder at this time.
"The victim was very fortunate not to have been seriously injured."
