Crackdown on Portsmouth pubs after attacks

Pte Matt Brooks died in hospital days after being attacked

Police are to check pubs in Portsmouth are meeting their licensing conditions after a number of fights, including one which resulted in a man's death.

Pte Matt Brooks, of Wiltshire, died in hospital five days after being attacked near Guildhall Walk on 13 May.

Another man suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked in the same area on Wednesday.

One man has been charged with Pte Brooks murder. Another has been charged over Wednesday's incident.

Police said venues caught breaching the rules could have their licences revoked.
