Builder crushed to death at Rose Bowl cricket ground

A builder was crushed by a concrete block as he worked on the spectator stands at the Rose Bowl cricket ground, near Southampton.

An investigation is now under way into how Philip Carsley, 34, from Thurnscoe, South Yorkshire, died.

An air ambulance was called to the stadium on Monday at about 1400 GMT but Mr Carsley died at the scene.

Hampshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) were investigating what happened.

In a statement, Mr Carsley's family said they had been left "shocked and numb" by the tragedy.

"Philip was very much a private family man who was loved by everyone and he will be greatly missed by all those he leaves behind," it added.
