Police cordon at the scene
Forensic officers carried out an investigation at the scene

Medical staff suffered reactions to pesticide seeping through the skin of a man they were treating for poisoning.

The man had drunk the chemical before being arrested by police on suspicion of murdering his wife, a spokesman for Hampshire police said.

His wife, Margaret Kibuuka, 40, was found dead at their home in Richville Road, Shirley, on Sunday morning.

Her husband, believed to be called George Kibuuka, is in hospital where he is also being treated for a stab wound.

He will be interviewed later.

A spokesman for Southampton General Hospital said that Mr Kibuuka was in a stable condition.

Police said they were called to the property at 0850 GMT after being alerted by a member of the public.

Firefighters were also called and wore chemical protection suits to take away hazardous materials.

Det Insp Dave Dilly said police were not looking for anyone else.

"We are however keeping an open mind until we have spoken to the man," he added.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of the woman's death is due to be carried out later.
