Son jailed for murdering mother

A 32-year-old man has been jailed for life for killing his mother at her Portsmouth home.

Elizabeth Scouarnec, 51, who was originally from Northern Ireland, was found dead at her home in Northern Parade, Hilsea, on 12 February.

William Scouarnec, of Fratton Road in the city pleaded guilty to murder at Winchester Crown Court.

Scouarnec was ordered by a judge at the court to serve a minimum of 11 years and four months.

Det Insp Jackie Rowlands said: "This has been a long and complex case for the police.

"The death of Elizabeth Scouarnec shocked the local community, and we are pleased to have been able to bring this case to a successful conclusion.

"This enquiry involved a great many people, from officers and staff to the witnesses who assisted us in our work.

"I would like to thank all those who helped us get to where we are today, and achieve justice for Mrs Scouarnec."
